Questioning textbook truth: suicide rates and the Hawthorne effect
Article Abstract:
The shocking claims are routinely made by the advocacy and interest groups to motivate the public to respond to what they perceive as important but neglect social problems. However, the impeachment of the claims by closer scrutiny makes these groups lose a measure of credibility and the general public to grow increasingly cynical of them and of the social sciences whose data and research support the claims.

Conflicting values in community policing
Article Abstract:
Community policing exposes police agencies to different, and often competing, sets of values. Although there are risks to this, it has a positive tendency to remind police of the aspects of their duties that extend beyond crime control.
