The effect of public employee unions on intergovernmental grants
Article Abstract:
The allocation of intergovernmental grants has traditionally been analyzed from the vantage point of their effect on public expenditures and the local economy. Lesser attention, however, has been given to the equally significant relationship of grant allocations to politicians' desire for increased popularity and electoral support. Elected officials have every opportunity for using these grants to reward supportive groups such as municipal public employee unions. Research shows that these unions have the power to influence and increase grants to municipal projects.

Trade unions and party politics in Israel: a decline of party identification
Article Abstract:
Israeli labor unions have the Histadrut as their root organization, and the Labor party has traditionally controlled the Histradut, though this control was lost in the May 1994 elections. The election result led to major changes in power relations in Israel's economy since the Histradut was a social organization controlling a number of sectors such as education and settlements, and it has lost much of this control. The election result also represented a weakening of the status of workers in Israel.

Occupational choice and wage differentials: theory and application in Israel
Article Abstract:
The influence of occupational choice on the decomposition of wage differentials is investigated for two ethnic groups which immigrated to Israel. Specifically, it is argued that discrimination may cause 'differences in the distribution of occupation.' This is factored into the wage equation to see what happens when the probabilities of being employed in certain occupations are considered in the wage-differential decomposition.
