The simple virtues of descriptive modeling
Article Abstract:
A response to Lin and Xie's article 'The Loglinear Modeling of Interstate Migration: Some Additional Considerations' is presented. Although the authors appreciate the usefulness of the descriptive approach, they use a conventional explanatory model in offering alternative interpretations of sociological problems. Since these problems can only be explained through description, the authors fail to accomplish their objectives by employing the explanatory model.

The fine line between evaluation and explanation
Article Abstract:
The author argues that evaluation procedures are equally as valid if they are performed in the absence of information on how a social service program functions. It is posited that since the primary focus of evaluators is to assess success or failure, it is not necessary for them to determine the causes behind their observations.
