NEW XBOX DEALS SET
Article Abstract:
Microsoft has entered into a strategic alliance with Japanese telecom giant NTT Communications to develop online gaming services for its upcoming Xbox console. The service is expected to launch in 2002 and let Japanese gamers access new types of playing experiences. Microsoft remains ahead of Sony in online gaming; Sony Computer Entertainment has yet to announce a complete plan to provide online games to Playstation 2 owners. Under the new agreement NTT will give Microsoft access to its ADSL network while Microsoft Japan's Xbox group will co-manage the service 'build-out.' Several other companies have signed Xbox contracts with MIcrosoft. Radica Games has licensed the Xbox architecture to design and market controllers and accessories under its Gamestar brand, and Swedish-based company AudioDev AB and DCA have contracted to supply equipment for electrical testing of Xbox games.
