Driving yards away in computer-aided era
Article Abstract:
The Tribon 3.0 computer aided-engineering software (CAE) of Kockums Computer Systems incorporates a Dotori module for enhancing the accuracy of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). The computer-aided design (CAD/CAM CAE) software is utilized by shipbuilders to calculate bevels and control the cutting heads for manufacturing ships based on the Tribon Product Information Model. The Tribon 3.0 reduces manufacturing costs and labor due to an automated control and information system that reduces manpower and human error.

Windows lead the way forward
Article Abstract:
The adoption of Windows NT-based computer programs has been drawing considerable attention among shipbuilders due to the numerous benefits they offer to industry members. Through the use of these operating systems, shipbuilders have been able to create novel designs for ships while taking advantage of huge cost savings. Two of the most commonly used NT platforms employed by shipbuilders include Foran V40 and Open VMS, which are both highly compatible with conventional engineering workstations.

Systems for a lifetime of ship care
Article Abstract:
Ship owners are increasingly using advanced software packages to arrest the unacceptable increase in bulk carrier losses which started in the early 1980s. These systems, which include VeriStar, ShipRight and SafeHull, provide ship owners and operators with vessel structure monitoring and ship data management functions which help them to plan repair work, ship design and construction properly.
