Bagging and tracking oil spills
Article Abstract:
Two new developments from Norwegian companies are aimed at improving pollution control techniques and responses in the field. Unitor is marketing its Oil Bag, which can be released overboard or dragged alongside the ship, for the storage of the oil from a tank in danger of leaking. The oil can be pumped into it, and a barge can then tow it away. Norcontrol has designed a spill response simulation program which should be more realistic than past models. Trainees communicate with one another via radio while reacting to a video simulation of a spill, complete with climate stressors and scarce resources.

Popular radar gains arpa capabilities
Article Abstract:
Racal-Decca's BridgeMaster 340 version radar now meets arpa requirements. Popular for its image persistence and cathode ray quality video, the 340 retains its manual control panel, which makes it easier to operate. The CPA and TCPA details for five targets can be displayed simultaneously, as can the ship's voyage plan and speed and heading data.
