Epidemiology and prevention of helicopter external load accidents
Article Abstract:
A 1995 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board showed a high rate of helicopter logging external load accidents in the country. Accidents were caused by pilot error, fuel insufficiency, numerous pilot tasks, inadequate helicopter maintenance, and improper loading. To counter this problem, a workshop was held in Alaska to discuss safety recommendations. Some of these were the implementation of manufacturer requirements for loading and lifting procedures and provision of enhanced training to pilots and crew members.

Mechanical and electromyographic comparison between the stoop and the squat lifting methods
Article Abstract:
The two lifting methods, the stoop and the squat, were compared with respect to its biomechanics and electromyographic results. Statistical analysisrevealed knee involvement as the most significant variable. The stoop lifting method was preferred because of the less mechanical work involved and the less demand imposed on the knee extensors.
