Health impact of injuries: a population-based epidemiological investigation in a local community of Bangladesh
Article Abstract:
An assessment of the injury morbidity and mortality in the Sherpur Sader Thana region of Bangladesh through a 1996 survey of 3,258 households revealed the extent of injury as a public health problem, accounting for an estimated 13% of total morbidity and 2.9% of total mortality. The most common victims of injury are those from younger age groups, with male children aged five to 15 years showing the highest incidence rates. The most commonly observed types of injuries were falls and cutting injuries, while most injuries happened in the home and at work. The most frequent forms of injury-causing deaths was drowning, followed by homicide.

Suicides and other fatalities from train-person collisions on Swedish railroads: A descriptive epidemiologic analysis as a basis for systems-oriented
Article Abstract:
The epidemiology of fatal train-person collisions as a basis for systems-oriented prevention is described. It is found that most train-person collisions happened in densely populated areas and 75% of the suicide victims were waiting on the track before the collision.

Trend and current status of child injury fatalities in Thailand compared with Sweden and Japan
Article Abstract:
This article compares child injury fatality rates in Thailand to those in Japan and Sweden. Increasing mortality for Thai children between 1987 and 1996 is contrary to rates for the other countries, suggesting injury is a major health problem in Thailand.
