Intelligent machines
Article Abstract:
Marine equipment manufacturers are focusing their product development efforts toward creating good marine engine monitoring and diagnostic systems to enhance propulsion efficiency. Such systems evaluate various aspects of marine engines using electronic sensors and notify engineers of potential mechanical problems. One of the latest engine monitoring systems to introduced in the market is Hyundai Heavy Industries' intelligent predictive diagnostic system.

Cheap spares are a false economy
Article Abstract:
New Sulzer Diesel Ltd. expressed concern over the prevailing trend among shipowners to opt for the lowest cost in buying marine engine spare parts. Although the practice can help reduce costs, it can also reduce the efficiency of marine engines. Moreover, the practice lessens the ability of original equipment manufacturers to monitor product quality since buyers who purchase parts illegally cannot report defective products.
