Spain's privatization process gets under way
Article Abstract:
Spain's shipbuilding industry is riding high, based on figures released by the Union Espanola de Constructores Navales (Uninave) that show orders for 147 vessels of various types. These orders are approximately 1.2 million cgt based on end of Dec 1997 figures. The impressive number of orders has been attributed to the specialization of shipbuilders in four key areas. These are in shuttle tankers, roro ferries, fishing vessels and chemical carriers and product tankers. In addition, the privatization of state-owned shipbuilding firms will greatly improve their operations.

Changed identity brings success?
Article Abstract:
Spain's Construnaves closed in Dec. 1993 amid serious financial difficulties and declining membership. However, this did not bring an end to its existence as six of the association's smaller members revived Construnaves as a limited company for marketing purposes. Today, Construnaves has enjoyed some success in its efforts to stimulate interest in the services of its 10 members.
