Theoretical models of health behavior and workplace self-protective behavior
Article Abstract:
An analysis of theoretical models of health behavior indicates that workplace self-protective behavior contains four stages. The appraisal of the hazards and availability of protection form the initial stage. The decision-making stage involves analysis of the effectiveness and practicability of the safety protocols. The initiation and adherence stages include assessment of the environmental and organizational factors that support the self-protective action. Factors such as threat-related beliefs, response efficiency and self-efficacy influence each stage.

Costs and benefits of preventing workplace accidents: going from a mechanical to a manual handling system
Article Abstract:
Canadian wine and liquor distributor Societe des Alcools du Quebec gained safety benefits and reduced its expenses when it implemented a workplace accident prevention program. It changed its conveyor-centered system to one which combined the use of pallets, shelving facilities, pallet trucks, forklifts and an automatic pallet distributor. The new system enabled the firm to reduce shipment errors, bottle breaks, labor costs and costs related to accidents common before its implementation.
