Conran Restaurants Managing Director David Loewi suggests the economic slowdown in the UK will have an adverse effect on the restaurant industry, particularly the top end establishments. He emphasizes the importance of having high quality staff. The company has a new 200 cover restaurant in Paris, France, called the Alcazar, which is seen as the first step in expansion plans for Europe. The managers of each of the 12 restaurants in the Conran group are given a certain amount of autonomy. Loewi dismissed criticism of the restaurants. He has been managing director since Aug 1998.
