Sailing in wake of commission
Article Abstract:
Reorganisation at Carlson Wagonlit Travel under the Project Magellan scheme has included the introduction of a corporate charge card similar to American Express. The company is to soon introduce fee-based pricing, and will launch a new corporate identity. It hopes to promote itself as a travel and expense management concern, rather than simply a travel agency. Some observers feel that these moves are simply efforts to catch up with American Express.

Fees are the way ahead in the US
Article Abstract:
Many US travel agents are now moving towards a system of service fees. There has been some opposition from customers, but it is becoming more widely accepted that this is the way forward. Some now make a flat charge for air tickets, regardless of what they cost, while others are charging customers by the hour or making charges for tickets which have to be exchanged. They feel that this approach should serve to boost their profitability.

Big boys join US on road to service fees: while European travel giants may be ready to welcome the move away from commission payments, smaller agents are worried
Article Abstract:
Many large travel agents are moving away from commission payments towards service fees, as a way of reducing distribution costs.
