Alternative feeding strategies and potential disease transmission in Wisconsin white-tailed deer

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted in Wisconsin on white-tailed deer using different feeding methods to determine the activity, behavior and possible transmission of infectious disease. Results showed that concentration differed in the feeding methods and contact at feeding sites showed possible transmission of disease among animals suggesting reduction of supplemental feeding to reduce disease.

Age-specific causes of mortality among white-tailed deer support mate-competition theory

Article Abstract:

Research describing patterns of age-specific male mortality in white tailed deer is presented. It is shown that the mortality patterns are in agreement with the predictions of mate competition theory.
