Chemically mediated avoidance of hemigrapsus nudus (Crustacea) by Littorina scutulata (Gastropoda): Effects of species coexistence and variable cues
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine the avoidance response of the intertidal snail Littornia sutulata sensu lato to chemical cues from the predatory crab Hemigrapsus nudus, both from the Pacific coast of Canada, using two-choice laboratory experiments. The findings indicate a risk hierarchy, with risk increasing from control seawater, to predator cues, to injured-conspecific cues, to a combination of predator and injured cues.

Fortress repair in the social aphid species Pemphigus spyrothecae
Article Abstract:
The repair role of individuals of the social aphid Pemphigus spyrothecae were investigated by prematurely opening their gall by cutting a hole of the same size and position as a natural opening. It is seen that nest repair is a vital element in the cooperative brood care, which is a distinctive feature of eusocial animals.
