Developing policy-oriented curricula for conservation biology: professional and leadership education in the public interest

Article Abstract:

A growing number of conservation biology leaders question the ability of current university curricula to prepare students to meet the needs of the profession in solving real-life conservation problems or to integrate the goals of conservation biology with other societal goals. Developing a new policy orientation in professional practice is the commitment of the Society for Conservation Biology in improving public policy development, education and practice and the group's desire to policy-oriented services.

Catchments as basic units of management in conservation biology courses

Article Abstract:

Catchments is the basic unit for management on any scale in most terrestrial biomes, and it is surprising that, the lecturers do not devote enough time to this important subject. It is suggested that since catchments are ubiquitous and come in enormous variety of sizes, they are excellent subjects for student projects in most schools and universities and students must practice with the units that most will have to manage when they leave the colleges and enter the real world.
