Endogenous control of migration and calendar effects in an intratropical migrant, the yellow-green vireo

Article Abstract:

The time course for moult, migratory fattening and autumn migration in juveniles of several bird species that breed in the temperate zone is controlled through endogenous circannual rhythms. Hand-reared wild-caught nestling yellow-green vireos under a constant photoperiod was conducted and was monitored for the expression of juvenile moult, migratory fattening and migratory activity

Plumage colour is related to ectosymbiont load during moult in the serin, Serinys serinus: an experimental study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted, with observational data and experimental results of endoparasites, to test the impact of ecosymbionts in particular feather mites on plumage brightness. The result revealed that ectosymbionts have a negative impact on the characteristics of the plumage developed, and consequently can signal the healthiness of their hosts.

Genetic variation and task specialization in the desert leaf-cutter ant, Acromyrex versicolor

Article Abstract:

The genetic effects on worker task performance in the desert leaf-cutter ant, Acromyrmex versicolor, are studied. The results suggest that the division of labor is affected by genetic variations on individual task preference and age-related task choice, but not on variation in activity level.
