Measurement of the quantum states of squeezed light

Article Abstract:

Complete investigations into the quantum features of squeezed states of light have become possible through the development of theoretical tools for quantum state reconstruction (QSR). A study considers all types of squeezed states of light, including squeezed vacuum, phase-squeezed sates and amplitude-squeezed states, through the construction of portraits based on the Wigner functions and density matrices. QSR by homodyne tomography is a method that will stimulate further experiments into new quantum states with non-gaussian statistics based on higher-order nonlinear processes.

Quantum interference in electron collision

Article Abstract:

Quantum interferences, profoundly affecting scattering, can occur due to the indistinguishability of identical quantum particles. A constructive interference between probability amplitudes in bosons, such as photons, can improve the probability that both are detected in the same direction, otherwise known as bunching. However a destructive interference in fermions, such as electrons, can suppress the probability. The realization of the destructive quantum interference is reported, in the collision of electrons at a beam splitter.

Silicon-based quantum wells

Article Abstract:

A study of resonant tunnelling in quantum-well structures demonstrated that strain-layer superlattices are most suitable for use as barriers. Strain-layer superlattices cannot be economically advantageous unless quantum confinement in silicon can be obtained with barriers higher than those in Si/Si1-x Gex systems. The ideal choice is the Si/SiO2 system because SiO2 can be grown by exposure of a silicon substrate heated to 550 degrees C to oxygen.
