Multiple effects of brood parasitism reduce the reproductive success of prothonotary warblers, Protonotaria citrea.

Article Abstract:

Prothonotary warblers are studied to quantify the effects of different intensities of brood parasitism by brown-headed cowbirds, Molothrus ater on their reproductivity. The effects are substantial enough to favor the evolution of behavioral responses that reduce the effects of brood parasitism on prothonotary warblers.

Experiments and observations of prothonotary warblers indicate a lack of adaptive responses to brood parasitism

Article Abstract:

Potential defenses against brood parasitism are studied in the prothonotary warbler, a cavity-nesting species. An evolutionary lag is noticed in prothonotary warblers considering that they are not recently exposed to widespread parasitism affecting their success

Spatially and temporally structured avian brood parasitism affects the fitness benefits of hosts' rejection strategies

Article Abstract:

The effect of spatial and temporal patterns of brown-headed cowbird parasitism on the nest desertion or parasite egg ejection in host birds, like warblers and red-winged blackbirds, is examined.
