Nitrogen transfer in the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis
Article Abstract:
A report on the results of stable isotope labeling experiments showing that inorganic nitrogen taken up by the fungus outside the roots is incorporated into amino acids, translocated from the extraradical to the intraradical mycelium as arginine is presented. The genes of primary nitrogen assimilation are preferentially expressed in the extraradical tissues, whereas genes associated with arginine breakdown are more highly expressed in the intraradical mycelium.

Low gene copy number shows that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inherit genetically different nuclei
Article Abstract:
It has been demonstrated that previously documented genetic variation in Pol-like sequences, which pass from generation to generation, are not due to either high ploidy or repeated gene duplications. The results provide evidence for substantial genetic differences among nuclei in arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and show that even AMF with a large nuclear DNA content are haploid.

Organization of genetic variation in individuals of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
Article Abstract:
Arbuscular mycorrhizal belong to the group of asexual multicellur organisms. A study is conducted which supports the alternative hypothesis of homokaryosis, in which nuclei populating arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal individuals are genetically uniform.
