Nongame bird use of habitat in central Appalachian riparian forests

Article Abstract:

Riparian zones have been considered unique habitats which support greater wildlife species diversity than other habitats. Consequently, wildlife management policies strongly support the preservation of riparian zones. However, a study of riparian zones in central Appalachian hardwood forests revealed low bird abundance and species diversity. A discussion of the different avian species observed in the region is presented.
