Short-term effects of fire and other fuel reduction treatments on breeding birds in a southern Appalachian upland hardwood forest

Article Abstract:

Mechanical treatments of many breeding bird species in winter and prescribed burns in springs were conducted. Results concluded that high-intensity burning with heavy tree kill, as occurred in mechanical and burn treatment and can be used as a management tool in the short term to increase densities of bird associated with open habitat.
