Residual patches and their contribution to forest-bird diversity on northern Minnesota aspen clearcuts
Article Abstract:
Residual patches left in clearcuts appear to contribute to the diversity of forest birds in aspen forests of northern Minnesota. A survey of breeding birds was conducted in 40 clearcuts, half with and half without residual patches. Most of the species associated with residual patches were classified as 'mature deciduous community' species, more likely to be experiencing population declines than 'open disturbed community' species.

Detecting Biodiversity Hotspots by Species-Area Relationships: a Case Study of Mediterranean Beetles
Article Abstract:
Models used to examine the species-area relationship for tenebrionid populations in the Aegean Islands included linear regressions, nonlinear regressions, logistic, negative exponential, power and exponential functions. Findings emphasize the role of endemics in evaluations.

An edge caused by adult corn-rootworm beetles on sunflowers in tallgrass prairie remnants
