Controls on heat flow, fluid migration, and massive sulfide formation of an off-axis hydrothermal system - The Lau Basin perspective

Article Abstract:

A numerical model is developed to analyze heat and fluid migration in a modern off-axis seafloor hydrothermal system, which gives insight into how hydrothermal fluids move in the ocean crust, the localities and magnitude of fluid discharge, and the timing and potential of massive sulfide ore body formation. Results reveal that rock properties, the nature and location of fault structures, and the involved heat source are the most crucial factors in determining the mineralogy and size of volcanic-hosted massive sulfide deposits.

In the shadow of Mycenae

Article Abstract:

Scholars have suggested many causes for the rise and fall of Mycenae, which dominated the Greek Peloponnese from 1500 BC to 1100 BC. Research now indicates that Mycenae came to power because it controlled a lush agricultural region, and that it declined because the land 'wore out' due to overuse and climatic changes. This pattern has repeatedly appeared in the area, and may be occurring again.
