After the revolution

Article Abstract:

The South African newspaper Mail&Guardian has evolved into a courageous weekly, and was named the International Newspaper of the Year in 1995. It started as a tabloid called The Weekly Mail which was printed in black and had a powerful liberal bias. It took on the apartheid state, and with its tabloid design, good investigative writing and excellent visuals was very popular with the public. However, decreasing financial security of the newspaper led to a tie-up with the Guardian Newspaper Group of United Kingdom and thus gave birth to the Mail&Guardian.
