Article Abstract:

Proforma Inc has developed a basic Protex System, an ergonomically designed computer workstation that aims to limit the risk of contracting Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and other diseases associated with a video display terminal (VDT) environment. The Protex System consists of a keyboard-support palm rest, document holder, mouse pad and writing form. The company is also researching on other factors that contribute to posture-derived musculoskeletal and vision problems as well as other causes of CTS among VDT users.

Software update: Intergraph Corporation's Microstation software is quickly becoming the new CAD standard for UNIX

Article Abstract:

Intergraph Corp introduced its Microstation SPARC software for computer automated design on Sun SPARCstations in Jan 1993. The company's Microstation 4.0 is already widely used on UNIX workstations, and will operate with DOS as well. The system is easy to learn because of the visual interface it offers users. In addition to many other features, it offers automatic calculation of dimensions and variable perspective views. Microstation software ranges in price from $3,300 to $3,450.

Twenty independent software developers have been cited by Intergraph Corp and Bentley Systems for meeting criteria for technical excellence, productpromotion and market acceptance for the Microstation software. These companies include Ideagraphiz, Landscape Designware, the AEC Group, Engineering Desktop and Beiswenger Hoch and Assoc. The versions developed by these companies use Microstation SPARC station systems.
