Colonial Michilimackinac

The historical background of Michilimackinac, the restored fort and village in the lower peninsula of Michigan, is described. The settlement had served as an important center for fur traders in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was designated part of the Mackinac State Historic Parts in 1904.

A man who had often gazed at a lighthouse in Long Island Sound as a boy decided to buy and restore the building. A brief overview of how the 19th century building was restored and decorated is presented.
