Article Abstract:

Southwall Technologies Inc's clear protective plastic film for windows called Solis is made from scratch-resistant polyester with an ultra-thin metallic layer that reflects over 50% of solar heat and 98% of UV rays while admitting 70% of visible daylight. The product has been endorsed by three designers who have extolled Solis' ability to diminish heat load efficiently while maintaining natural light, clarity and visibility.

Forest management: why should designers and architects specify tropical woods?

Article Abstract:

Many designers avoid the use of tropical woods in their specifications to contribute to the preservation of forest estates. However, this may lead to the devaluation of these products and eventually result in the people losing interest in initiating forest management projects. Government leaders should see forest management as a long-term economic activity requiring careful planning and the use of the latest technology.
