Article Abstract:

Dr. Anita Rui Olds, a psychologist, redesigned the pediatric wing of the University of Maryland Hospital, in Baltimore, to bring in natural surroundings and provide a stress-free atmosphere for patients. Olds feels that hospital atmosphere is an important aspect in health improvement, and discovered through a research that nature is the best source of mental calm. The pediatrics section looks like a forest. The atmosphere is enhanced with light and nature sound effects.

Eco exhibition: east meets west

Article Abstract:

An international exhibition of furniture and furnishings for the home and office designed according to environment-friendly standards is being organized by arts coordinator Anneke van Wasberghe. The exhibit will feature 25 entries which will showcase creative design, engineering and manufacturing processes that conform to environmental guidelines. The considerations include effect of raw material usage on the ecosystem, energy usage and safety of all components.

Subterranean scheme

Article Abstract:

The administrative offices of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation were designed by TAS Design Assoc. TAS Design took advantage of the curved foundation at the entrance and lounge area by putting in circular windows that allownatural light to reflect through. The semi-private offices have detailed glass, aluminum and cherry walls to serve as partial screens. The carpets were of autumn colors while the desks and chairs were custom-designed.
