International collaborations

Article Abstract:

Three architectural projects are presented, with the first two involving international collaborations. Skidmore, Owings and Merill teams up with China's Institute of Architectural Design of Shenzhen University to design the Shenzhen World Trade Center. The project is part of China's development project for the Futuan district. Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum Inc and Nikken Sekkei of Tokyo, Japan, are presently formulating schematic designs for Sendai Airport's international/domestic terminal. Meanwhile, Haines Lundberg Waehler is set to restore the American University of Beirut College Hall's original design.

Globe-trotting with HOK

Article Abstract:

Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc (HOK) has various projects in different countries. HOK's Hong Kong office has completed the master plan for office spaces, hotels, retail spaces and residential units in New Hong Kong, a waterfront development plan in Daya Bay, Guangdong, China. HOK also forged a joint venture with Chapman Taylor Partners in designing a new hotel in Taiz, Yemen. HOK Sports Facilities Group, on the other hand, won a contract to design the Coors Field in Denver, CO.

Article Abstract:

The headquarters of the American Academy in Rome will undergo renovation starting with an expansion of its library. Five new bathrooms will be added to the facility, including one especially designed for the handicapped. Bathroom fixtures for this project were donated by Kohler Co's French subsidiary Jacon Delafon. The project is expected to be finished in time for the Academy's centennial celebration in 1994.
