Neo-natal environments

Article Abstract:

Doctor Robert White of the Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, is conducting research into the effects of day and night lighting and low noise on the development of babies in special care units. Observations are made from babies' reactions to stimuli such as stroking and blood sampling. A preliminary result shows that darkening a room can encourage the babies' wellbeing and enable parents to relax with the baby. Half of nurses preferred constant bright light to better observe the babies' condition.
