A Brazilian afternoon daily is being revived using vibrant colors and tidbits of sports news and political gossip alongside important headlines. The entire paper looks chaotic and disorganized. Designers of the paper claim that the chaotic appearance of the paper has added to its appeal as an afternoon daily. The paper was designed to cater to the masses and people who have less stressful occupations. The new design seems to have delighted many Brazilians as evidenced by the paper's 300,000 copies sold everyday.

Consistency v. variety

Article Abstract:

Newspapers should continue to innovate in terms of content and delivery in their online publications. The improvements could be in the form of a simple explanatory paragraph to a headline so that readers may better grasp the story, search improvements, search aides and new archive applications. While the improvement need not be overly dramatic that user's may not be familiar with it, newspapers must keep in mind that they have the responsibility to provide their clients with news reporting innovations.

Article Abstract:

The 1994 new headline typeface of the Plain Dealer, a daily newspaper of Ohio, was developed as a result of two-phase systematic approach, one to decide what the new typeface should look like and the second to create the type itself. It was designed in a condensed style to conform to narrow settings and was artificially expanded through photographic techniques.
