Proving that a brave new world needn't be frightening

Article Abstract:

An innovative approach for attracting the target audience contributes to the popularity of the Spanish tabloid 'Diaro de Noticias.' It received 19 awards from the Society of Newspaper Design in 1995 and is regarded as one of the 20 best-designed newspapers in the world. The newspaper carries simple news graphics and visual presentation of information. Innovations include university news page and the coverage of diverse subjects under local, national, and international subdivisions. Sponsoring local events and allowing readers to express their opinions helps in building the image of the newspaper.

Teens & sexuality

Article Abstract:

Teenagers' arguments about the way they spend their sexual lives are either confused, naive or consist of bravado conforming to the prevalent values around them. The photojournalist, Dan Habib, conducted a multimedia educational program with eight subjects, who were asked to define their sexual identity to their peers. Habib documented the whole experiment in pictures. He took 18,000 photos, and 15 of them were included in the supplement of The Concord Sunday Monitor, called Teen Sexuality in a Culture of Confusion.

The Sunday Age: a look and feel that's getting to be universal

Article Abstract:

The Sunday Age newspaper of Melbourne, Australia, won the the broadsheet category of the Tony Whitlock Award for Excellence in Newspaper Design out of 15 entrants. The newspaper tries to cater for all tastes and is more integrated than advertising-led North American weekend papers. Some in-depth articles would be better if condensed and the newspaper has been criticized by competition judges for placing the top story under the fold, but readers are unlikely to find this annoying.
