New work and reconstructed work in the context of dance repertory

Article Abstract:

Both new and reconstructed work in dance repertory should focus on developing in students the awareness that dance has a cultural context. Dance repertory emerges from specific conditions of time and place. When students have specific experience with the processes at work in the development of repertory, dance education's vitality is enhanced.

Digital artist Paul Kaiser discusses his aesthetics regarding computer simulations used in dance productions, along with the role of artificial intelligence in choreography. Kaiser believes that simulations should not take the place of human dancers, as interpretation and relevance are linked solely to human participation.

Dance and technology: a pas de deux for post-humans

An analysis is presented on the visual representation of dance through computer simulations. Techniques include projection of computer-generated figures alone or paired with human partners, and the role of the figures in the enhancement of or in counterpoint to the human dancers.
