Critics negotiate dance evaluation with terms and categories that do not always accurately identify the nuance of expression in movement. Article Abstract:

The choregraphy of Martha Graham, especially the gender representation in Night Journey, is examined. Night Journey examines Oedipus from the point of view of Jocasta, Oedipus's mother and wife. The creation of all Graham's "Greek" pieces, not only Night Journey, stemmed from her interest in the psychological theory.
