William Morris: the earthly paradox

Article Abstract:

Nineteenth-century English designer, poet, printer and activist William Morris had an uneasy relationship with photography, in part because of the tension between professional photography and artistic photography. Such conflicts were a large part of Morris's life. Although his designs were progressive and ornate, he preferred simplicity and the designs of the Middle Ages. Despite being a socialist, he made his living designing art objects for wealthy clients. He mastered many crafts, including printing, type design, weaving and dyeing.

Hostile 255m pounds sterling bid for Dennis

Article Abstract:

The future of an agreed all-share merger between Henlys and Dennis, one of the leading bus manufacturers in the UK, seems uncertain following the launch by car and bus parts manufacturer Mayflower of a hostile 255 million pounds sterling bid for Dennis. The financial details of the offers favour a victory by Mayflower, but in other respects the offers are very similar. Whatever the outcome, the purchase of Dennis will have a significant impact on the bus-building sector, where takeover activity has been anticipated for some time.
