4-dihydromethyltrisporate dehydrogenase from Mucor mucedo, an enzyme of the sexual hormone pathway: purification, and cloning of the corresponding gene

Article Abstract:

The NADP-dependent 4-dihydromethyltrisporate dehydrogenase from the zygomycete Mucor mucedo was purified. This enzyme is implicated in the biosynthesis of trisporic acid, the sexual hormone of zygomycetes, which induces the initial steps of zygophore formation. Protein was obtained from the (-) mating type of M. mucedo after induction with trisporic acid and purified by gel filtration and affinity chromatography steps. Findings revealed a relationship to enzymes belonging to the aldo/keto reductase superfamily.

Two putative MAP kinase genes, ZrHOG1 and ZrHOG2, cloned from the salt-tolerant yeast Zygosaccharomyces rouxii are functionally homologous to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae HOG1 gene

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze show that a couple of putative MPA kinase genes cloned from the yast Zygosaccharomyces rouxii are functionally homologous to the Saccharomyces cerevisiae HOG1 gene. Experimental results indicated the presence of a high-osmolarity glycerol response pathway in Z. rouxii that is the same in S. cerevisiae. Findings also showed that the MPA kinase genes support a role in osmotic regulation or ion homeostasis.

Threshold level of protein kinase A activity and polarized growth in Mucor rouxii

Article Abstract:

Results show that N(sup)6-cyclic AMP analogues impair polarized growth of Mucor rouxii under all the nutritional and environmental conditions studied. Data also indicate that the protein kinase A activity correlated with hyphal morphogenesis and the germ-tube emergence coincided with the enzyme activity threshold level.
