A genomic perspective on the shortcoming of mitochondrial DNA for "barcoding" identification

Article Abstract:

The natural history of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is reviewed and problems for barcoding are discussed which are particularly associated with mtDNA and inheritance. It is felt that barcodes of mtDNA could be useful for confirmation after hypotheses based on other or more complete sources of data that is gathered and analyzed.

Organization and variation of the mitochondrial control region in two vulture species, Gypaetus barbatus and Neophron percnopterus

Article Abstract:

Characterize the organization and variability of the entire control region sequence in N. percnopterus and G. barbatus and compare it to other avian control regions. Results showed that the general organization of vulture control regions was very similar to other birds, with three distinct domains.

Mitochondrial DNA variation in benzimidazole-resistant and -susceptible populations of the small ruminant parasite Teladorsagia circumcinta

Article Abstract:

The assessment of genetic diversity of the mtDNA ND4 gene in benzimidazolr-resistant and 11 Teladorsagia circumcinta populations from France and Morocco is reported. The findings indicate that no strong, recurrent bottlenecks occur during the acquisition of BZ resistance by a worm population.
