A troubled history

Article Abstract:

The benefits, cost and the side-effects of various first-generation and second-generation antipsychotic drugs are discussed. The second-generation antipsychotics are found to be more efficient than the first-generation ones but need to be modified to reduce the side-effects like stiffness and dyskinesia.

This is an excellent review of a very complex man. As taxonomist, teacher, Professor, oceanographer, author or editor, he gave an important perspective to the complexity of environmental work and the depth of scholarship. He was a tireless advocate for the preservation of live and the appreciation of biological diversity on earth. Read particularly his book reviews in the Quarterly Review of Biology, where he gave incisive comment to both organisms and authors. As editor of Edward Ricketts' book, Between Pacific Tides, he preserved the ecological approach to intertidal study. Marine Biologists and Oceanographers remember this elegant man with great respect.
