Adipogenesis and obesity: rounding out the big picture

Article Abstract:

Obesity results from excess nutritional availability and excess energy storage. Genetic studies on mice have shown that the regulation of body weight is influenced by leptin and the leptin receptor. Because leptin is secreted by adipocytes in proportion to triglyceride stores, increased levels of leptin are stored as excess energy after adipocyte differentiation. The genes and pathways involved in adipocyte differentiation are discussed.

Obesity and the regulation of energy balance

Article Abstract:

The authors present a review of the publications on obesity, a state of increased adipose tissue. The points of interest include the role of genes in the body fat regulation, understanding of the energy balance concept and the contribution of the diet to obesity.

Peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor delta activates fat metabolism to prevent obesity

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor delta. The authors demonstrate that targeted activation of this receptor in adipose tissue induces gene expressions which are important for fatty acid oxidation and energy dissipation.
