Shaping morphogen gradients

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the evidence in support of the active transport of signaling proteins or morphogens and the role of passive processes involved in shaping morphogen gradients for use in tissue development. Antibody staining and morphogen-green fluorescent protein fusion studies morphogen gradients in vertebrate development.

bantam Encodes a developmentally regulated microRNA that controls cell proliferation and regulates the proapoptotic gene hid in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that Drosophila bantam gene encoded microRNA facilitates tissue growth by stimulating cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis. It also regulates the pro-apoptotic gene hid and its expression responds to patterning cues.

Argosomes: a potential vehicle for the spread of morphogens through epithelia

Article Abstract:

Basolaterla membrane-derived argosomes are produced by several regions of the Drosophila imaginal disc epithelium, which eventually settle in endosomes. Data indicate that argosomes spread Wingless morphogen proteins in vivo.
