Aerobic mineralization of 2,6-dichlorophenol by Ralstonia sp. strain RK1

Article Abstract:

A pure culture of an aerobic bacteria isolated from Amponville, France, was obtained and characterized using media enriched with 2,6-dichlorophenol (2,6-DCP). Taxonomic characterization of the species revealed it to be a member of the genus Ralstonia and was thus designated as strain RK1. Upon further characterization, strain RK1 was found to completely degrade 2,6-DCP in media. Reactor experiments further demonstrated its potential in biodegrading wastewater contaminated with chlorophenols.

Isolation and characterization of a chlorinated-pyridinol-degrading bacterium

Article Abstract:

A pure culture of a chlorinated-pyridinol-degrading bacteria was isolated and characterized. The bacteria, which found to produce carbon and energy in an aerobic environment, was found to be a Pseudomonas sp. Unidentified polar metabolites, (super 14)CO(sub 2) and chloride was produced by [2,6-14C]3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol. The bacteria was designated ATCC 700113.

Presence of a vanadium nitrogenase in Azotobacter paspali

Article Abstract:

Azotobacter paspali strains defective in the molybdenum nitrogenase are constructed to study alternative nitrogenases. Presumptive nifDK genes cloned from A. paspali are used to construct a silt-directed mutation in the corresponding chromosomal locus, proving the existence of a vanadium nitrogenase system in A paspali.
