Altered protein expression of Streptococcus oralis cultured at low pH revealed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis

Article Abstract:

Researchers have identified 28 proteins in Streptococcus oralis that are up-regulated at pH 5.2, including enzymes of the glycolytic pathway, peptide chains from ATP synthase, ABC transporters, and stress response proteins such as 60kDa chaperone, HSp33, and superoxide dismutase. This bacterium causes tooth decay when the pH of the mouth drops to 5.2.

Effect of acidic pH on expression of surface-associated proteins of Streptococcus oralis

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Streptococcus oralis's surface-associated proteins. The auithors have investigated the role of culture at low and neutral pH in the proteins' expression, and have described the application of two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and protein identification to the analysis of these proteins via the use of mass-spectrometric techniques and liquid chromatography.

Effect of biofilm growth on expression of surface proteins of Actinomyces naeslundii genospecies 2

Article Abstract:

The effects of biofilm growth on the proteome of surface-associated proteins of Actinomyces naeslundii genospecies 2, separating proteins by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) and achieving protein identification using liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS), are studied. Seventy-nine proteins are identified in biofilm cells and thirty of these, including adhesins, chaperones and stress-response proteins, are upregulated relative to planktonic cells.
