An Aspergillus niger esterase (ferulic acid esterase III) and a recombinant Pseudomonas fluorescens subsp. cellulosa esterase (XylD) release a 5-5' ferulic dehydrodimer (diferulic acid) from barley and wheat cell walls

Article Abstract:

The Aspergillus niger ferulic acid esterase III (FAE-III) and Pseudomonas fluorescens subsp. cellulosa esterase (XylD) hydrolyze barley and wheat cell walls to release (E,E)-4,4'-dihydroxy-5,5'-dimethoxy-3,3'-bicinnamic acid (5-5'diFA). The release of 5-5'diFA increases in the presence of xylanase. Xylanase solubilizes other ferulic acid dimers also, but the esterases release only 5-5'diFA. This is due to either enzyme specificity or substrate accessibility.

Bioconversion of ferulic acid into vanillic acid by means of a vanillate-negative mutant of Pseudomonas fluorescens strain BF13

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the ferulic-acid-degrading Pseudomonas fluorencens strain. The isolation of the transposon mutant from this strain to bioconvert ferulic acid into vanillic acid has been carried out.
