An evolutionarily conserved RNA semi-loop functions as a sensor that directs feedback regulation of RNase E gene expression

Article Abstract:

An evolutionarily conserved RNA semi-loop is discussed. It acts as a sensor directing feedback regulation of rne (RNase E) gene expression. Determination of the secondary structure of the rne 5' UTR by phylogenetic comparison and chemical alkylation has been completed. Dissection studies have been carried out to identify the 5' UTR element that mediates autoregulation. RNase E is an important regulatory enzyme that for the principal pathway for mRNA degradation in Escherichia coli.

The Dlk1 and Gtl2 genes are linked and reciprocally imprinted

Article Abstract:

The Delta-like (Dlk1) gene has been identified in Peromyscus and the laboratory mouse genus Mus. It is paternally expressed and tightly linked in Mus and humans to the maternally expressed Gtl2 gene that encodes an untranslated RNA. The coexpressed Dlk1 and Gtl2 genes have been found to be reciprocally imprinted. They respond reciprocally to loss of DNA methylation and likely are a new example of coordinated imprinting of linked genes. To study the genes, an allelic differential display method using placental mRNA derived from two closely related mouse species was designed.

Regulation of gene expression by the small GTPase Rho through the ERK6 (p38(gamma)) MAP kinase pathway

Article Abstract:

Gene expression regulation by the small GTPase Rho via the ERK6 (p38(gamma)) MAP kinase pathway is discussed. It has been found that activated RhoA is capable of stimulating c-jun expression and activity of the c-jun promoter. Evidence that PKN, RhoA, ERK6 (p38(gamma)), and MKK3/MKK5 are parts of a novel signal transduction pathway related to the regulation of cellular transformation and gene expression exists.
