Androgen-directed development of the Xenopus laevis larynx: control of androgen receptor expression and tissue differentiation

Article Abstract:

Sexual differentiation of the larynx in Xenopus laevis takes place during postmetamorphic (PM) development and is controlled by the expression of androgen receptor (AR) mRNA. Both sexes of Xenopus juveniles exposed to androgen show proliferation in the laryngeal cells. Short exposure to androgen causes an initial inhibition of the AR mRNA expression followed by recovery of expression. Long exposure causes inhibition of AR mRNA expression and male type differentiation of the elastic cartilage of the larynx is seen in both sexes.

Microtubule organization, acetylation, and nucleation in Xenopus laevis oocytes: II. A Developmental transition in microtubule organization during early diplotene

Article Abstract:

Confocal immunofluorescence microscopic studies of the microtubule (MT) cytoskeleton and centrosomal protein gamma-tubulin during oogenesis in Xenopus laevis reveal that MT changes and nucleation occur during entry into the diplotene stage. Inactivation of the maternal centrosome occurs during the onset of diplotene stage, suggesting distinct parts played by MTs and maternal centrosomes in animal-vegetal axis specification.
