Climate reconstruction based on biological indicators

Article Abstract:

The current status of climate reconstruction using biological indicators was analyzed. Climate reconstruction may use either climatic limiting factors for individual taxa, like pollen, plant macrofossils and insects, or climatic limiting factors for associations, like humid climate forests and coral reefs. In addition, other approaches include analysis of covariance of physical characteristics and climate, like leaf physiognomy and tree rings, and analysis of covariance of taxa relative to frequency and climate, as in pollen and marine microorganisms. Although there are a number approaches for climate reconstruction, ther is still a great need for empirical data.

Why biological literacy matters: A review of commentaries related to The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life

Article Abstract:

Public perception about science and genetics remains inconsistent, bordering on a somewhat distorted deterministic view. The public believes that scientific findings are the 'absolute truths' and cannot be contested, making distorted 'scientific studies' as basis/justification for popular beliefs. A case in point is the use of the findings in the 'The Bell Curve, Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life' to justify racial inferiority. There is a need to reinforce the public's perception regarding careful scrutiny of scientific studies and findings.

Heart rate indicators for assessing physical activity level in the field

Article Abstract:

Researchers test for the reliability and validity of heart rate indicators for determination of physical activity levels. Data was taken from individuals in three different seasons in Thailand and observations were also made at the group level.
