Comparison of methods of extracting Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis DNA from environmental substrates and quantification of organisms by using a general internal procedural control

Article Abstract:

Commercially available five DNA extraction methods are compared with respect to DNA extraction efficiency of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis from soil, manure and compost and uses an Eschericia coli strain harboring a plasmid expressing green fluorescent protein as a general internal procedural control. A more accurate molecular analysis for quantification of serovar Enteritidis initially present in soil or manure using DNA extraction and TaqMan PCR is presented.

Environmental DNA fragment conferring early and increased sporulation and antibiotic production in Streptomyces species

Article Abstract:

The rep gene, isolated from an environmental DNA library, which when transformed into Streptomyces species resulted in increased production of secondary metabolites and accelerated sporulation. Streptomyces lividans bearing rep gene constitutes an improved expression host for heterologous DNA libraries and antibiotic production.

Development of innovative pediocin PA-1 by DNA shuffling among class IIa bacteriocins

Article Abstract:

Reciprocal chimeras between pediocin PA-I and enterocin A were constructed to develop an improved version of pediocin PA-1. These new and improved DNA-shuffled bacteriocins are useful as food additives for inhibiting sour spoilage of dairy products.
