Composition and structure of microbial communities from stromatolites of Hamelin Pool in Shark Bay, Western Australia

Article Abstract:

The molecular phylogenetic makeup of microbial communities that build Hamelin Pool stromatolites is determined to shed light of the surface and interior of a domal stromatolite. The results suggest that new and diverse microorganisms form much of the structure and fabric of the communities and contribute substantially to stromatolite formation.

Phylogenetic composition of rocky mountain endolithic microbial ecosystems

Article Abstract:

Various photosynthesis-based models of communities are used to study the phylogenetic composition of the endothilic microbial ecosystems that mainly consist of rocky mountains. The analysis reveals that such ecosystems are seeded from a global metacommunity and hence forms the simplest microbial ecosystems ever known.

Effects of abiotic factors on the phylogenetic diversity of bacterial communities in acidic thermal springs

Article Abstract:

The influence of abiotic factors on microbial community diversity in acidic thermal springs is examined. Principal-component analysis has shown that chemistry and temperature explain 95% of the genetic diversity, with most of the variance attributed to mineral chemistry and a small portion attributed to temperature.
