Coupling of functional gene diversity and geochemical data from environmental samples

Article Abstract:

The use of artificial neural network (ANN) models to analyze clone libraries for two sets of functional genes, dissimilatory sulfite reductase and nitrite reductase gene isolated at the U.S. Department of Energy's Natural and Accelerated Bioremediation Research (NABIR) Program field site is discussed. Results are used to identify the geochemical measurements that have the greatest influence on the distributions of the clone groups.

A clp gene homologue belonging to the crp gene family globally regulates lytic enzyme production, antimicrobial activity, and biological control activity expressed by Lysobacter enzymogenes

Article Abstract:

The study was carried out to identify mutants of strain C3, formerly classified as Stenotrophomonas maltaphilia, affected in extracellular enzyme production and to evaluate their biocontrol efficacy. The result indicates that clp gene is a global regulatory gene that controls biocontrol traits expressed by Lysobacter enzymogenes.

Comparisons of protocols for decontamination of environmental ice samples for biological and molecular examinations

Article Abstract:

Several decontamination protocols of environmental ice samples that are used for molecular and biological examinations are compared. Results may be used for developing standardized decontamination protocols and could be utilized by researchers working with ancient ice.
